Editions

2018

The Song 2019 was to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia under the slogan 'Arabian Dream'. Lojain Omran was selected to host the event in King Abdullah Sports Hall with 48 countries expected to compete. 

 

Due to copyright claims on YouTube and a lot of time needed to organize the event, The Song 2019 got cancelled in June 2019. In case the contest ever gets organized again, it will be held in Jeddah.

2018

Following Loïc Nottet's victory in Las Vegas previous year, The Song 2018 took place in Antwerp, Belgium in the Summer of 2018.  A total of 38 countries competed in the contest under the slogan 'Together in Antwerp!'. Alex Agnew and Erika Van Tielen hosted the event in Antwerp's Sportpaleis. Saudi Arabia achieved their first victory with their debut entry "Daddy" performed by Rotana.

2017

Eleventh edition of The Song took place in T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, United States in the Summer of 2017 following LP's win in Birmingham the previous season. A total of 45 countries took part in the contest under the slogan 'Feeling Inspired'. Julie Chen hosted the contest. Belgium achieved their first victory with Loïc Nottet's song "Million Eyes".

2016

The Special Edition contest gathered all countries that achieved Top 3 placement in the past 10 seasons in the country where #thesong was born - in Croatia. United Kingdom won the Special Edition with a hit single 'Hello' performed by Adele.

The tenth edition of #thesong took place in Barclaycard Arena in Brimingham, UK in the fall of 2016 following Coldplay's victory in season 9. Fearne Cotton & Kit Harrington were the presenters for the show which united 42 countries all over the globe under the slogan 'Ignite the fire!'. United States achieved their first victory in the contest with LP's single 'Lost On You'. 

Ninth edition of #thesong took place on the Cayman Islands - British Overseas Territory in the Summer of 2016 following Adele's victory in Cologne at #thesong8. Cayman Ice Palace was the venue for the contest and the show was hosted by Kiera Knightley, Carina Tyrell and Emma Watson. 50 countries were taking part in the contest under the slogan 'Creating Future', making it the biggest edition to date. Coldplay won the ninth edition with their single 'Hymn For The Weekend'. This is the third time the United Kingdom won the contest and first time one country won twice in a row.

2015

December 2015 saw 44 countries competing in the eighth edition of #thesong taking place in Cologne, Germany. The contest was hosted by Anke Engelke and Lena Meyer-Landrut for the second time, joined by Elyas M'Barek. The motto of the season was 'Feel the vibes'. Adele won the eighth edition for the United Kingdom with her hit single 'Hello' which scored 282 points making her the biggest winner of all times. This is the second time United Kingdom have won the contest.

The first contest held in the United Kingdom happened in August 2015, following Jessie J's victory in previous edition. She hosted the seventh edition of the competition together with Cheryl Cole and Paloma Faith in London under the slogan 'Summer's Rhythm'. This is, to date, the biggest contest ever with 47 countries taking part in it. Germany won their second contest with the song 'Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better)' sung by Felix Jaehn & Jasmine Thompson who scored 171 points. Jasmine is, to date, the youngest winner of #thesong.

6 months after Conchita Wurst won #thesong5, along with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mirjam Weichselbraun, she hosted the sixth edition of the contest in Klagenfurt. 45 countries have shone in Austria, but United Kingdom shone the most - Jessie J sung 'Flashlight', received 173 points and was declared the first British winner of #thesong. This contest was the first to use the new generic logo, designed for all the contests to come.

2014

Fifth edition of #thesong was held in Berlin by Anke Engelke, Helene Fischer and Lena Meyer-Landrut. 38 countries competed under the slogan #joy (translated from Esperanto language). The winner of this contest came from Austria - Conchita Wurst brought the first victory to this European country with her song 'Heroes'. At the moment, this was the biggest victory in #thesong with 185 points.

After Avicii was crowned the winner of #thesong3, the fourth edition of the contest was hosted in Sweden in Malmö (1st Semi-Final), Gothenburg (2nd Semi-Final) and Stockholm (Grand Final) by Gina Dirawi and Danny Saucedo. 34 countres competed in the contest.  Germany scored the most votes and won their first contest with 170 points thanks to Helene Fischer and her song 'Atemlos Durch Die Nacht'.

New Zealand hosted #thesong3 in a slightly different way. The third edition of the contest was based on a 'World Cup' format with 36 countries being split into 8 groups. By voting, they were voted off and Sweden remained unbeaten with Avicii's 'Addicted To You' who won the contest beating Cuba in the last 'match' of the season. The contest was hosted by Dominic Bowden in Auckland and Wellington.

Following Indila's victory in Croatia, France was awarded hosting the competition the next edition. 41 countries have gathered in Lille (Semi-Finals) and Paris (Grand Final) under the motto 'Let The Music Speak'. Contest was hosted by Laëtizia Giovanelli Penmellen & Harry Roselmack. Debuting country - New Zealand won the second season with the song 'It's Worth It' by Jackie Thomas who received 150 points. This is, to date, the only non-European winner of the competition. 

The first edition of the competition took place in Croatia. This sunny country hosted the very first edition of the contest in 3 cities - Zagreb (1st Semi-Final), Split (2nd Semi-Final) and Pula (Grand Final). The shows were hosted by Antonija Blaće and Tatjana Jurić. A total of 35 countries participated in the contest and France was declared the first winner. 'Derniére Danse' performed by Indila scored 171 points. This is, to date, the only French victory in the contest.
