The Song was founded in April 2014, with the first edition launched on June 12, 2014. Unnamed contests preceded The Song in the Summer of 2013 which you can see here. The contest was originally meant to be called 'Our Music', but was renamed before the contest was launched. The Song is designed and produced by Crimson.

In recent years, the contest has become annual but was organized more frequently in 2014 and 2015.
